Volumetric Weight
A calculated dimensional metric used by freight carriers to compare package volume against physical mass.
Term Definition
Volumetric (or dimensional) weight represents the space a carton occupies relative to its actual physical scale weight. It is determined by multiplying carton length, width, and height in meters by standard freight conversion ratios. When volumetric weight exceeds actual weight, shipping charges are billed based on dimensional volume.
Usage Example
«A carton of plastic toys weighed only 12 kg physically, but its dimensional calculations yielded a volumetric weight of 28 kg.»
What we do
We repack shipments at our Guangzhou warehouse to eliminate hollow air pockets and minimize volumetric weight.
